Wrist Pain

Wrist pain can occur from injuries of tendons or ligaments around the wrist joint. Wrist pain can also occur from injuries/damage to the bones (and cartilage) of the wrist.

Tendons around the Wrist

Injuries to tendons around the wrist often occur from overuse injuries. One common site of injury of the tendons is at the base of the thumb. This is called De Quervain tenosynovitis.

Ligaments of the Wrist

The wrist has many ligaments stabilizing the joint. There is a special structure called the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), comprising of both ligaments and cartilage, which joun the 2 bones of the forearm (radius and ulna) to the small bones of the wrist joint. Injuries to these ligaments or triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is a cause of wrist pain.
