Heel pain can occur at the back of the heel or the underside of the heel. The two commonest causes of heel pain are plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs on the under surface of the heel and is usually worse on stepping on the affected foot. Achilles tendonitis occur at the back of the heel and it can cause pain during jogging or running.
Diagnosis of Heel Pain
The cause of heel pain can often be made from the history and physical examination in the clinic. Sometimes investigations such as X-rays or MRI may be done to exclude other injuries or to confirm the diagnosis.
